Position Overview:
The Pro Bono and Community Outreach Manager will be primarily responsible for overseeing and managing the pro bono legal services program, including volunteer recruitment, training, case management, and community outreach. This role also involves coordinating communications strategies, media relations, and fundraising efforts that support NNLA’s work. In this collaborative role, the manager will work closely with unit supervisors and the Executive Director (ED) to assess specific needs for pro bono recruitment across various units, ensuring targeted and effective volunteer engagement
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Pro Bono Program Management (Primary Focus)
Collaboration with Unit Supervisors and the Executive Director
- Work closely with unit supervisors to assess their specific needs for pro bono recruitment, training, and case
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to align pro bono program goals with organizational priorities and strategic plans.
- Facilitate regular meetings with unit supervisors and the ED to evaluate program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
Volunteer Recruitment and Training
- Recruit, train, and mentor volunteer attorneys, interns, and special education surrogates to provide pro bono
- Conduct orientation sessions and provide ongoing legal training relevant to pro bono practice
- Develop targeted recruitment strategies based on feedback and needs identified by unit supervisors and the
Case Intake, Assignment, and Management
- Assess and manage case intake, determine client eligibility, and match cases with suitable volunteer
- Monitor case progress, ensure timely communication with clients, and address any issues that arise during
- Maintain and track a database of volunteer attorneys and case assignments, ensuring data integrity and
Self-Help and Community Services
- Oversee self-help services, including the Self-Help Center, ask-a-lawyer programs, inmate assistance programs, and legal clinics.
- Build partnerships with community organizations to identify unmet legal needs and enhance service delivery through collaborative efforts.
Data Tracking and Reporting
- Track and report key metrics such as clients served, volunteer hours, and program impact to demonstrate the program’s effectiveness.

- Identify and develop new pro bono initiatives or expand existing programs to meet emerging community
- Create and implement recognition initiatives to honor volunteer contributions and foster ongoing
Communications, Fundraising, and Outreach
Communications and Media Relations
- Develop and implement communication strategies to raise awareness about NNLA’s services, mission, and pro bono opportunities.
- Manage media outreach, craft press releases, and build relationships with local journalists to secure positive
- Lead public awareness campaigns through social media, newsletters, and community events to educate the public about available services and legal rights.
- Coordinate internal communications to keep staff and volunteers informed about programs, events, and
Fundraising and Donor Engagement
- Lead fundraising efforts to support NNLA’s programs, including donor outreach and event
- Build and maintain relationships with donors, foundations, and community partners, ensuring ongoing support and engagement.
- Organize fundraising events, volunteer recognition activities, and other events to support program sustainability and community involvement.
Event Planning and Community Outreach
- Plan and execute community outreach events, legal clinics, and other initiatives to connect with the public and promote access to justice.
- Coordinate volunteer recognition events and activities that celebrate the contributions of NNLA’s
- Work with the current event planning committee to assist and support their efforts in organizing various parties and events for the organization.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Prior experience managing pro bono programs, volunteer coordination, and legal advocacy is preferred. Experience in communications, media relations, and fundraising is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and experience with data tracking systems.
- Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across
- Organizational Skills: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects with competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
