Bilingual Self-Help Facilitator (English/Spanish)
Not everyone can afford an attorney, but everyone deserves guidance. At our Self-Help Center, you’ll be the person who helps community members understand the legal process, fill out paperwork, and take the next step forward. As a Bilingual Facilitator, you’ll make the system more accessible for people who might otherwise get lost in it and that kind of impact is hard to match.

Position Overview
The Bilingual Self-Help Facilitator plays a vital role in supporting NNLA’s Self-Help Department, and inmate/pretrial detainee assistance program. You will be the first point of contact for clients assessing inquiries, managing intake processes, and ensuring that each client receives the appropriate assistance. This role is ideal for a proactive individual with strong interpersonal and administrative skills who is comfortable working in a high-volume, community-focused environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Front Desk and Client Engagement
- Greet and welcome walk-in clients at NNLA’s Self-Help Center.
- Meet with clients in person and provide support via email and phone; assist clients with filling out Justice Court forms (e.g., Tenant’s Affidavit, Motion to Stay).
- Refer clients to appropriate community services.
- Translation and Communication
- Translate documents and provide interpretation services.
- Perform general office tasks as required.
- Inmate and Pretrial Detainee Assistance
- Provide certain non-criminal legal assistance to inmates and pretrial detainees at the Washoe County Regional Detention Facility, such as clarifying legal forms and procedural steps.
- Help inmates understand the nature and purpose of legal documents without directly drafting pleadings or filling out forms on their behalf.
- Facilitate access to notary services for necessary documents, including Powers of Attorney.
- Assist with Powers of Attorney so inmates can manage personal or financial matters while incarcerated.
- Provide referrals or resource information for issues beyond NNLA’s non-criminal assistance scope.
- Maintain accurate records of services provided, including inmate contacts, types of assistance, and follow-up actions.
Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (verbal and written fluency required).
- Demonstrated experience with translation and a strong foundation in office operations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable with computer/database systems.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to interact compassionately with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Prior experience working with low-income individuals, victims of trauma, crime, or domestic violence is desirable.
Location
Work is expected to be performed primarily on-site at the Reno Justice Court, 1 South Sierra St., Reno NV 89501.
