Northern Nevada Legal Aid (NNLA), formerly known as Washoe Legal Services, is seeking a Development Manager. They will help strengthen, maintain, and grow support for the vital, free legal assistance we provide to the indigent and underrepresented in Northern Nevada by collaborating with our executive team in the development and execution of the organization’s strategic development plan. Initial development focus involves raising funds for building improvements. Duties and Responsibilities This position reports to the Executive Director, and as a member of the leadership team:
  • directs or coordinates the organization’s fundraising and donor cultivation efforts,
  • helps develop and execute the organization’s strategic plan,
  • leads fundraising development, communication, and donor management efforts,
  • sets and achieves annual and long-range fundraising goals, including baseline annual fundraising targets,
  • builds strong relationships with fundraising partners, including effective and consistent fundraising-related outreach to supporters,
  • measure progress throughout the year to ensure success, including creating reports to analyze data and determine the effectiveness of fundraising programs,
  • collaborates with all departments to support funding needs and priorities,
  • ensures consistent, compelling storytelling, including proposals, acknowledgement letters, emails, and other donor-related materials like end-of-year gifts and meeting packets,
  • produce board reports and presentations as needed.
Qualifications As an ideal candidate, you have proven senior management experience and success in supporting the development of a solid infrastructure for a legal aid organization or other non-profit. You understand that fundraising and raising financial resources are medicine for caring for our communities. You are motivated to seek and build pathways to new financial resources, including institutional, individual, and governmental funders. You have a proven track record in institutional fundraising and working with high-net-worth individual donors and a genuine commitment to helping us best serve the indigent and underrepresented in our community. Salary/Benefits Position is a full-time, exempt position, with a salary range of $65,000-85,000, depending upon experience. Salary will be reviewed after 6 months and may be increased accordingly.  NNLA promotes superior work-life balance by offering a 35-hour work week, 13 paid holidays per year, and a generous Personal Time Off (PTO) program that starts accruing immediately to earn over 5 weeks of PTO a year (increase in PTO accrual after 2 years). Northern Nevada Legal Aid (NNLA), formerly known as Washoe Legal Services, seeks a Supervising Attorney for our Housing & Consumer (H&C) Department. This attorney will maintain a caseload and supervise a team of Housing and Consumer attorneys who provide direct legal representation through our Housing and Consumer department. Attorneys in good standing with an active bar license from any U.S. jurisdiction can be licensed in Nevada under Supreme Court Rule 49.1 to fill this position. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the legal work of Housing & Consumer program attorneys and support staff across multiple offices (H&C attorneys and staff work weekly at the Reno Justice Center and our Senior Law Center)
  • Conduct weekly case acceptance meetings to decide level of client representation
  • Participate from time to time in local and regional community education outreach events related to H&C rights
  • Coordinate with community partners and serve as a community resource
  • Conduct annual evaluations for H&C staff attorneys and support staff
  • Assume other duties assigned as needed by the H&C program
Qualifications
  • Active member in good standing of the State Bar of Nevada or active, licensed attorney in good standing from any United States jurisdiction to comply with Supreme Court Rule 49.1
  • One (1) year experience supervising attorneys and support staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Excellent relationship-building skills (comfort appearing in a courtroom and professional meetings where teamwork is essential; being an empathetic communicator with a positive attitude)
  • Desire to problem-solve, make decisions efficiently, and refer clients to resources as appropriate
  • Ability to focus on multiple cases and travel to clients and court appearances, when necessary
  • A genuine commitment to serving the indigent and underrepresented in our community

Northern Nevada Legal Aid (NNLA), formerly known as Washoe Legal Services, is seeking a Staff Attorney for our Child Advocacy Department. Staff Attorneys in this department provide court appointed legal representation to abused and neglected children who are a party to a dependency action in Washoe County. Child Advocacy Attorneys assure protection of the child’s legal rights and provide representation of the child in court and other settings allowing the child to take an active role in their own destiny. Attorneys in good standing with an active bar license from any U.S. jurisdiction can be licensed in Nevada under Supreme Court Rule 49.1 to fill this position. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Establishing a trusting and confidential attorney-client relationship with clients and maintaining regular contact for the duration of the action through in-person visits and/or phone calls,
  • Working with a multidisciplinary team including caseworkers, therapists, teachers, foster parents, parents, relatives, and attorneys for parties to the action, to help the child achieve timely closure of their dependency case and return to normalcy in their lives,
  • Representing the child in regular court hearings remotely and in person when court required,

  • Attends outreach events for NNLA and other regional events, coordinating with community partners, and serving as a community resource,
  • Other duties assigned as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Must be a member of the Nevada Bar or possess an active and good standing Bar License from any United States jurisdiction to comply with Supreme Court Rule 49.1,
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills,
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, comfortable appearing in a courtroom and other professional meetings in which teamwork is essential, an empathetic communicator with a positive attitude,

Northern Nevada Legal Aid (NNLA), formerly known as Washoe Legal Services, is seeking a Staff Attorney for our Adult Guardianship Department. Staff Attorneys in this department are appointed by the court to represent protected persons in adult-guardianship proceedings under NRS 159 and attend weekly court hearings in counties throughout Northern Nevada, principally in Washoe County. Many court hearings are handled remotely; when required by the court, the Staff Attorney must timely appear in person for assigned court hearings. NNLA will train the right candidate for this position.   • Visit with assigned clients prior to all court hearings,

Qualifications:
  • Qualified candidates must be a member of the Nevada Bar, or possess an active and good standing Bar License from any United States jurisdiction to comply with Supreme Court Rule 49.1,
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills,
  • Effective Decision-making skills including deciding how the law applies to the facts in each case and deciding what steps need to be taken to ensure the law is being followed and the clients’ wishes and interests are being served,
  • Effective verbal communication skills,
  • Ability to concentrate and focus on multiple cases and travel to clients and court appearances, when necessary,
  • Experience with Adult Guardianship and the Protected Persons’ Bill of Rights set forth in NRS 159.328, desired,
  • A genuine passion and deep commitment for the mission of NNLA,
